Understanding the DNS Setup Icon and Status Indicator in Uptics

What is the DNS Record Checker in Uptics?

Inside Uptics, we provide a convenient DNS Record Checker within our platform to help ensure the presence and accuracy of your DNS records for optimal delivery of your emails.

As part of this feature, our system verifies the presence of your DNS records and will show our findings inside of the DNS Setup Icon. The system will also send courtesy email notifications to the Inbox Owner (the user who added the inbox to Uptics) if any records are found to be missing.

DNS Setup Icon

On your Inbox or WarmUp page, you will notice that for each Inbox you have connected there will be some icons off to the right.

The icon highlighted below is the DNS Setup Icon that will inform you if we detect there are DNS records missing on any of your connected domains.

DNS Setup Icon in Uptics

Below are the three color codes you will encounter when viewing the DNS Setup Icon from the list page above, or from the WarmUp page:

  • Green Icon (Complete): If the DNS Setup Icon displays a green status, it indicates that Uptics has recognized that you have all the necessary DNS settings in place. No further action is required from your end.

  • Yellow Icon (Partial): If the DNS Setup Icon displays a yellow status, it indicates that your DNS records are partially set up. Specifically, at least one of the records (DKIM, SPF, or DMARC) is missing. We recommend reviewing and addressing the missing records to enhance your email deliverability.

  • Red Icon (Not Present): In the event that the DNS Setup Icon appears red, it indicates that none of your DNS records are present or set up correctly. It's crucial to resolve these issues.

For any inboxes and domains that are showing a yellow or red status, you can refer to this article on How to set up DNS records inside of your DNS Hosting Provider.

DNS Setup Single Detailed View

For each inbox and domain, you can view more detailed information on the status of the DNS records by clicking into the DNS Setup Icon pointed out above, which will display a single detailed view.

It is important to click into this view if the DNS Setup Icon is yellow to get further information about which records are not being recognized.

DNS Setup Single View

This view provides a breakdown of the status of the DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records. The color coding in this view is either green or grey—it represents whether the record is set and correct (green) or not set (grey).

In the example above, the yellow status indicator is there because one of the DNS records is being recognized as 'not present'. Furthermore, the DMARC is greyed out because that is the record that is not being recognized, and thus that is the record that needs to be added to your DNS Settings.

How often will the system recheck my DNS records?

Uptics will run the checks for the above DNS records immediately when you first connect your inboxes and domains.

If at the point you connect them, you notice that any records are missing, please note, that the system runs scheduled rechecks in 96-hour intervals. If an issue with a record is addressed, it may take up to 96 hours to be reflected inside of Uptics due to this.

To reiterate, our monitoring tool is periodically checking all the DNS parameters, and if you happen to fix some issues that were detected, it will reflect only when your account is examined again. It's not live checking and it serves just as a notification service to address the issue something is off.

If you know you had an issue, and have since addressed it, please keep this in mind. If you have all the settings set up correctly, you don't have to be concerned about anything, and the indicators will become green after the next periodic check.

What is I have a Custom DKIM Selector (rare)

Occasionally, there may be situations where the DKIM record cannot be identified. This occurs when configuring your own email server and defining a unique DKIM selector. If you aren't aware of what this is, it is unlikely this pertains to you.

Uptics checks DKIM against a list of default standard selectors used by most email providers. However, if you've chosen an alternative selector, our system may not be able to identify it, resulting in a greyed-out display in the DNS Record Checker.

If you are utilizing a Custom DKIM Selector, you will need to confirm and validate on your end that this record is in place and be aware that the aforementioned is the reasoning behind the Partial Yellow Status and Grey DKIM indicator for your domains.
