Domain Warming

Domain warming is how you establish your sending reputation for a new domain or a domain that has not been used to send email recently. You'll likely only need this, starting out, for two scenarios:

  1. Your company is brand new and you haven't sent and received many emails.

  2. You burned your domain by blasting too many emails and damaged your domain authority and landed on blacklists, which means you end up in spam most of the time.

Warming up a domain involves sending emails from the new domain in small quantities, and incrementally increasing the volume each day or week according to a set schedule.

You can do this yourself by sending emails to people and getting them to reply. Or, there is software out there that will do this for you. WarmUp by Uptics offers this with any paid Uptics subscription, and takes all of the thinking out of the process. Connect your inbox to Uptics, and tell Uptics that you want to warm it up, and when it's ready, we'll let you know!

Mail providers get suspicious of emails from a domain that doesn't have a sending reputation or that has an unfamiliar sending pattern. They have to protect their customers from spam, so they will block email from a new domain (or large volumes coming through) because it's likely coming from spammers.

Warming your domain develops its identity and sending reputation, which helps earn mailbox providers' trust.
